Hi - with the new split function it splits the data in to a table. How do you access this table to use the data?
I was thinking to use it as a helper on working around the current limitation of powerapps not working with sharepoint multi-select choice options. e.g. select items in listbox and concat them to a text box which is saved in sharepoint.
Then when I open that record on a form to edit I am thinking I could use the split function to get the value and split it out and set it as the default value on load of the screen for the listbox - this way I am setting the values and they can be edited accordingly.
I just need help on how to use the split table and I suppose then how to set it as the default values for a list box.
Either that or if someone knows when choices will be compatible I may just wait as doing this would be a lot of work as I may have 100's of listbox's in my assessment form.
Any assistance is appreciated.
I have found some documentations, please check if they could help:
So, the split function itself returns a table object with one column of data labeled "Result".
You can use the name of the column (Result) to act on the data from the split in anyway you need.
For example, consider the following function:
Filter(Split("hey!dude!hey!","!"), Result <> "hey")
yields a table object:
Does this make sense?
While you can now use the Split function to break down your single value into multiple, the listbox currently doesn't support multiple selections by default.
Please vote up the idea at https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/PowerApps-Ideas/Listbox-Pre-Selection-of-Listbox-from-Existing-r... to increase the priority of that feature with the product team.
Carlos - thanks for pointing this out as I was trying to essentially set teh default of a listbox t othe split results which I see now is not supported.
This comes back to the issue of PowerApps not supporting Choices with multiple selections which I know is set as "Planned" - who knows when that means but for me it means PowerApps is useless for now as I need to use it for assessments/surveys with multi-select - of which I need to be able to come back to and edit.
I would hope the idea I up voted will be incorporated in to the Choice multi-select enhancement - I see it going hand in hand.
Yes, multi-select listbox (or better support for multi-select choice columns in Sharepoint) is a commonly asked feature. There is a workaround, using a gallery to implement the multi selection. I just wrote a blog post with more details about how this can be accomplished
Take a look at https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/carlosfigueira/2017/09/15/supporting-multi-valued-listboxes-in-powe... for more information.
Hope this helps!
thanks for this but I fall into the category of needing to use a scrolling canvas and datacards so this does not work for me.
The listbox and multiple choices I see has many votes and is right up there on the wish list but only set as planned - not sure how much longer I can wait for this essential feature before being forced into using a different app t ocreate the forms I need.
Any clue on when the required enhancements to listboxes will be???
I posted yet another workaround for this scenario, this time one that works in forms - using different controls (such as checkboxes) to present the choices to the user. I'd expect something that will make this scenario easier to be released soon, but I don't know for sure when that will be.
