I read this thread and was wondering myself for some time now if another approach could also work, so I took the time to try it out.  

 

Maybe you can try this one also:

LookUp(Choices(YourList.LookUpField), Id = Gallery1.Selected.ID)
// ourList.LookUpField - change this to your SP list and lookup field

I tried it in a form and with Patch, seems to work both. But I can't guarantee this is a valid approach, maybe Randy or somebody of the PowerApps Team can tell us?

Yes, that would work as it would return (from the lookup) the information needed for the column.

However, it is yet another lookup.  Usually not an issue.  In this case, you already have all the information needed in the Gallery (the Id and the Value), so another Lookup would just be another round-trip.

But...Yes - a working option!
