Design Power Page Portal for my customers

I have a database in Dataverse maintained by a PowerAPP.  I really want to be able to send a new customer a link to their own individual power page where they can login and see their past and present orders.

Architecturally, is this possible and how to I "think about it", to design it correctly.  I never could figure this out with the older power portals.

Thank you.

Hi @astrontelstar

Because you have mentioned it is a dataverse backend. Here are the top-level principles to achieve what you are expecting.

1. Create a Power Pages (Portal) first and enable Azure AD login.  Remember you can turn off the local login as this will confuse the user.

2. Place a link in your power app to the newly created power page.

3. Once they click the link, they will be prompted to sign in. As we only enabled Azure AD, the only the first time they need to sign in, after that they will be auto logged in upon clicking the link.

4. Design a page and add a table and link your existing dataverese table ( orders table). Use filters and filter by username and show the data according to your scenario.

Have fun. Hope it gives a high-level idea.

Hope it helps.

Thank you.  I think I follow, but allow me to clarify.  The user does not user the powerapp only me.   So let's say a new user buys 100 coffee cups from me.  I will set them up using my powerapp and add them to my database; ie. PO number, customer name, item purchased, amount paid, etc.   Once I have them in the Microsoft Dataverse using my power app, I'd like to send them a unique link that allows them to login and see their particular orders and then maybe upload files for me, approve coffee cup images for production, re-order, etc.  I'm stuck on the unique link part of figuring out how to create a unique filtered powerpage that they log into, see only their orders.  I hope I'm being clear.  I think maybe your solution will work but with this clarification, will your solution work?

If you want to send a unique link and code you should look into invitations. 🙂

The external user is a Contact in DataVerse - they are not a DataVerse or PowerApps user (but they can be if you need them to be)

On your "Order" record you populate a Contact or Customer (Lookup) with the contact making the order

Security

  • You will want to set up some Table Permissions (currently still only able to be done in the Portal Management App) - this is what restricts the Contact to only seeing their relevant records (do not rely on just a link to surface info unless it is public info)

As you are using a Contact that has not originated from the Power Pages, you will probably either need to do one of the following:

  • send them an Invitation, (this links the portal registration to the Contact record) or
  • send them a link to  List Page or a Page with a Form with the GUID of the 'Order' record but with your B2C  setup with email mapping turned on (the email mapping links the portal/B2C registration with the Contact record

Each DataVerse record has a GUID that is its unique identifier (held in a field that is the same name as the table but with an 'id' suffix) this GUID is what is used to refence records from the Power Page form.
