Power portal extension in dev ops fails on Power Portal Download task

Hi. I have been struggling with this for couple of hours now. When I execute dev ops pipeline it fails on the task of downloading portal.

Extension is being installed successfully, connection is verified with "who am I".

The details of the errors on the task:

The portion that was cut on the screenshot:

"Sorry, the app encountered a non recoverable error and will need to terminate. The exception details have been captured and will be forwarded to the development team, if telemetry has been enabled. Exception Id: 2c3cfa5d-7676-493d-810d-529054d8a0ac, Exception Type: System.ArgumentNullException"
When command is tested in VS Code it works fine. The portal id is correct.
I found similar problem here:
I have tried the last suggestion and it is still not executing properly.
I hope someone is able to assist me.
Kind Regards

Hi @PiotrMichalski

1. Make sure you have elevated rights for your C drive

2. Looks like you don't have permission to write files to the C:\Paportal

3. You can assign yourself with the full elevated privilege to the above folder and give it a try.

Hope it helps.

Hello @PiotrMichalski, thank you for reporting the issue, can you please open a GH issue  Issues · microsoft/powerplatform-build-tools ( to track it better, also would it be possible to share the log file generated in the failed pipeline execution?

Hi @ragavanrajan

Thank you for your time to write your suggestions. I think I do have right to create and modify files I have verified this by creating simple PS script to add new file to D:\paportal folder and then I have updated it.

How do I add full elevated privilege to the folder with PS?

Hello @ameyaapte1 .

Thank you for the reply.

As requested, I added issue here -> Power portal extension in dev ops fails on Power Portal Download task · Issue #218 · microsoft/power... .

I can share the logs with person assigned to the issue.

@Piotr_Michalski thank you for opening an issue on our GH issue tracker (that is our preferred way for customers to report issues, and for us to hunt down the issue and eventually resolve it). The link to the issue tracker is also referenced in the VS Marketplace

@ragavanrajan thanks for your suggestion. While an Azure DevOps cannot change permissions on an AzDO build agent, your remark made me look twice: @PiotrMichalski is indeed specifying `c:\paportal` which is likely not writeable on an AzDO build agent (depends on which agent pool is used, and how those agents are configured).

Best practice for any AzDO task is to NOT express any paths with hard-coded drive letters, but instead just specify a relative path (which will be assumed relative to the source dir on the agent) or use one of the predefined pipeline variables in

@DavidJen I have tried to follow best practice as suggested (thank you for the link) and modified my task:

However, the error still persists:

[Exception Id: 12cdc9d4-7405-402a-aefc-53d0e0afbd02, Exception Type: System.ArgumentNullException]

we were facing the same issues. We solved it with a additional ModelVersion parameter

pac paportal download --path "C:\" --webSiteId 6asd6ase12371892asd  -mv 1

- mv 1 is for standard datamodel

- mv 2 is for enhanced datamodel
