Display image from URL/Image or Thrumbnail column in email notification

Inserting any of the following won't give me an image in the notification email. I even use the image tag <img> for the url column, however, the returning URL has extra string (?csf=1&web=1&e=S3b4jG) added after the .jpg link. How do I get only the url for the image? Small/Medium/Large of the Thumbnail returns nothing.

Hi @NewBee117

That is a very new column type... I've tested and SharePoint actions do not return values for this column type, and you can't get to the file via 'Get attachments' or similar... if you use the 'Create Item' action you'll notice that that the 'Image' column will not be visible to populate... just seems this column type isn't supported in PA yet.

This is echo'd in this post: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/How-do-I-display-an-image-column-from-my-Sha...

I'd suggest either storing the image in a document library and adding a reference using the 'Hyperlink' column type or just add the image as an attachment to the list item.

Hi @NewBee117

You are using the SharePoint list trigger... i.e. a new item.

I have checked and a 'Picture' column does not generate thumbnails... the returned value for {thumbnail} is an empty array.

I'd always thought thumbnails were generated for image files added to a document library... I wasn't aware this worked for list items.

Are you using a picture column on the list to point to an image stored in a SharePoint library?

If so, you'll need to use the URL to construct a call to the 'Get file properties' action which will return the thumbnail URL's for the image file.

Hi, @Jay-Encodian ,

How do I pass the URL in the Picture column from the SharePoint modern list to the Get File Properties action? The image is in the library called "Document".

Hi @NewBee117

There is no easy way of doing this because you can't just pass a URL direct to a file, furthermore using string manipulation technique is not wholly reliable in all scenarios (think sub-sites, libraries, folders).

Before I look into this can you explain what you are trying to do as a whole as there may be a better way of storing data / building the solution.

Even if you obtain the thumbnail URL... the image will only work for users who are authenticated to access the file, i.e. any external users viewing the email would not be able to access the image

Hi, @Jay-Encodian

I have a SharePoint Online list. The picture is stored in a column using the "image" type. I need to send this image in email when new item created. Right now Power Automate can't see the "image" column. Users are all internal, so permission is not a problem.  Thanks.

Thank you, @Jay-Encodian. "image" type is a great addition to SharePoint, I hope the Power platform catches up soon.
