Dynamically updating managed metadata field

Hi everyone

I'm trying to update a MM column in my document library using dynamic data and have been following the instructions here to do this.  However, for some reason the Suggestions step is failing with a 502 - BadGateway error.  The config of this setp is shown below:

I'm not sure why this is failing as the BadGateway error gives no other information.  I'd be grateful if anyone has any advice that could resolve this because at the moment the only alternative I can see is to use a normal Choice column.

Could you please share the error message? 

Did you install the on-premise gateway? If not, please install it follow these steps:

Thanks for the response.  I'm sorry but my original post wasn't clear but the site I'm working with is on SharePoint Online so I didn't think an on-premise gateway was required?
