Get all existing events based on a new holiday request being added to sharepoint calendar

Hi

I am looking to return all existing items on a sharepoint calendar when a new vacation request has been added.

I have it partially working using an odata filter but it only returns items that the event date matches.

Can anyone help me get all existing events that occur when a new entry is added

The entry has to include events that overlap the vacation request being entered

ie

John wants the 21st to 23rd of feb

Brian is already in the calendar until 22cnd of feb

Peter is in the calendar from the 20th of feb until 26th of feb.

I need to return all items in an email to notify that

John has requested 21st to 23rd

People already off 

Brian 19th - 22cnd

Peter 20th - 26th
