Getting notification if nobody filled out excell cell until specific date

Hey guys,

I just started working with MS Power Automate and I would like to know if this example can be solved with Power Automate and if yes, how do I do it?

We have an excel sheet on our Sharepoint and different team members have to fill out different cells with information. Now I want to get a notification on a specific date (e.g. Friday 10 am) which of these cells were not filled out yet.

Thanks and best regards,
Timo

In your case Compose is just a placeholder for the data in column "Code". The Empty() statement should not be in the Compose block. Fill in the Compose with an Excel Dynamic Content for "Code".

For your case the Empty() statement in the Condition should say:

empty(outputs('Compose'))

The outputs('Compose') is dynamic content. You can add dynamic content to Expression statements while you are building them.

One simple change and you will be able to test for empty. BTW I am sure there are other ways to do this.

Hi @timodondino

You can have a "schedule" trigger for the date you want to check the information and fetch the data. If the data is empty, you can send an email back to the users to fill in the data, for example.

So your steps should be:

1. Trigger = "Schedule"

2. Fetch Excel rows

3. If column X is empty, send an email

Can you please check if and let me know if you have any questions?

Hi @manuelstgomes

Thank yo for your answer! That's really good help.

But do you exactly know, how to check if the column is empty?

I tried it with the condition.

"Column name" "does not contain" "choose a value".

But with this method it does not matter if there is something in the column or not. Power Automate always decides that the answer is wrong.
If I switch "does not contain" to "contains", then the answer is always right. Doesn't matter if I put something in the column or not.

Best regards

Timo

HI @timodondino

Yes, more or less like you said:

Example excel:

In the condition block add code that searches for empty value:

empty(outputs('Compose_-_Present'))

This is for the example below. FYI the compose blocks in the yes and no are not necessary just there for testing.

The if NO will be filled with the data where Present column is empty. After run you can save the names of the people who didn't fill and send whom every you like a reminder.

Thank you both for you help! 🙂

@crowdjswhat exactly do you put into "Compose-present"?

My table looks like that:

ExcelPA.png

So I thought, my Code has to look like the following, because the name of my column is "Code" (while yours name is present):

ExcelPA2.png

But then I always get the error notification that I have to put in the actionName. What is my mistake?

Thanks and best regards,

Timo
