Importing a solution with Flow connections intact

I have a solution containing a couple a flows with all their dependencies added as connection references. When using the new built in importer the flows are automatically added with all their connections intact, ready to go out of the box.

We use Azure DevOps (and the Power Platform build tools) for our ALM and would like to be able to schedule builds from our solution repos our environments... However I have been unable so far to get the flows to import with component connections intact, they require going through each connector in each flow to select 'new connection reference' or selecting the one just created, assumedly this is just ignoring the included connection references and perhaps creating new connection references as new dependencies within that environment?

Is this a limitation of the build tools? Has anybody managed to get an automated experience using Azure DevOps which is on par with using the manual solution import?
