Licensing - Premium Connectors that are triggered by SharePoint List Item Creation

Can someone, please, clarify the licensing requirements for this scenarion?

 

  • There is a Flow that is triggered by a SharePoint List item creation.
  • SharePoint list item can be created by anyone in the company.
  • When triggered, the Flow is using a premium connector. Azure Automation connector in our case.
  • Flow is deployed by an account with a Premium license.
  • The rest of the company has only the default "free" license assigned to them, no premoum licenses.

 

Question: Do we need a single premium license? Or we need a premium license for every single person in the company that will be able to create a SharePoint list item, thus, triggering the Premium Flow?

Hi @DenisMolodtsov 

 

If you are using the When an Item is Created or When an Item is Created or Modified trigger from the sharepoint connector, the flow is being triggered in the context of the user that set the flow up. So as long as this user has access and relevant permissions to the list, the other users do not need to have any premium license (provided the flow doe not require them to use their connections in any of the actions). So in the scenario as you have shared, the user setting up the flow needs to have the premium license and all other users can have the base license.

Thank you @yashag2255. We know that t he flow is run in the context of the user who created it because it is triggered asynchronoysly by a SharePoint List Item. And we know that technically, anyone in the company can trigger this flow inderctly this way.

 

What we want to clarify is: "Are we legally required to have previum licenses for all users who indirectly trigger the premium flow?" This question is more about legal licensing requirements. The mistake in the licensing can be very expensive. We try to clarify this very carefuly. I remember Microsoft was saying something about requirements for Premium licenses for all users who "indirectly" benefit from the premium connecter. Is it still the case? Or something has changed?
