Planner Update task detail - Reference timeout/server error

Hi, I get an odd behavior when I use the Update task detail for Planner and I set the Reference field to an array variable containing the same ressourceLink twice.

Why does it take so much time to get the actual error message?

I expect to get an error message stating that I cannot use the same ressourceLink more than once, failing the flow.

Instead it take 15 minutes:

  1. the Update task detail step block the flow,
  2. give an InternalServerError without any other explanation than a Client request ID
  3. wait 5 minutes
  4. give another InternalServerError without any other explanation than a Client request ID
  5. wait 10 minutes
  6. the flow timeout and finally give the full error message:

{
  "error": {
    "code": 500,
    "message": "Key with path references.resourceLink under $ is not a valid key. Duplicate value https%3A//somelink%2Ecom found.",
    "source": "canada-001.azure-apim.net",
    "path": "choose[14]\\when[1]\\choose\\when[1]",
    "clientRequestId": "c28d2832-5f70-4f94-88c4-365114334ab7"
  }
}

How to achieve this:

Create an array variable defined as

[
  {
    "alias": "Link display name #X",
    "resourceLink": "https://somelink.com",
    "type": "Other"
  },
  {
    "alias": "Another display name",
    "resourceLink": "https://somelink.com",
    "type": "Other"
  }
]

Set the variable as the content of the Reference field of an Update task detail flow step.

Run the flow.

Re: Planner Update task detail - Reference timeout/server error

In the settings of the action you can set the retry policy manually to make it give up sooner.  For example, this fixed interval policy will retry every 10 seconds 5 times, and therefore give up and fail in less than 1 minute:
