Refresh a dataset (Power BI)

Hi everyone,

The following article (link below) describes how to refresh a dataset in Power BI when an item is created or modified in SharePoint. But how do I make a flow that is based on Excel and not SharePoint? So when an item is created or modified in Excel then refresh the dataset in Power BI.

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/refresh-your-power-bi-dataset-using-microsoft-flow/

Thank you

Hi @seryil ,

You can use When a file is created or modified as a trigger. Regardless of whether the file is stored in the SharePoint Library/OneDrive/File System, the trigger can monitor changes to the file contents. Just specify the file when configuring the trigger.

Re: Refresh a dataset (Power BI)

HI @seryil ,

Excel doesn't provide any triggers, so you can't have the same workflow as you have with SharePoint.

Sorry for the bad news.

Re: Refresh a dataset (Power BI)

where is your excel stored?

If its stored on sharepoint/onedrive you could use those triggers.

keep in mind powerbi has a limit per day of how many refreshes you can do 8 i believe
