Removing the "Submit for approval" button at the top of the document library

Hello, I'm wondering if there is a way to remove the "Submit for approval" button at the top of the document library? I created a flow that automates the document approval process, whereby a user selects the document and uses a flow to start the approval. This makes the button at the top redundant and confusing. I'd like to know if and how the 'Submit for approval' can be removed or disabled, preferably removed from the menu option? I haven't been able to find anything in the library settings or from any online help that addresses this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Mycrosoft,

This is probably to late to help you out. But hopefully it'll be useful to someone else.

I got this from Reza Dorrani (Power Automate Document Approval workflow for SharePoint - YouTube)

The idea is that you utilize the power of the 'Submit for approval' button. Instead of using the 'For a selected file' trigger you use 'When a file is created or modified (properties only)' or 'When an item or a file is modified'.

To make sure that the flow is not triggered every time a file changes you can add a Trigger Condition. The flow needs to be triggered when the 'Submit for approval' button has been pressed. So the 'Approval status' has to be 'Pending'.

Add the Trigger condition: '@equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/{ModerationStatus}'], 'Pending')' to your trigger and your flow is only started when the button 'Submit for approval' or the 'Approval status' is changed to 'Pending'. From there on your flow can do the approval etcetera to finish your work flow.

Hi,
Sometimes when integrating PowerAutomate, the 'Submit for approval' is not suitable and confusing for the user experience.
For instance, when using 'For a selected file' action with inputs to collect data from the user before launching the Flow. The 'Submit for approval' button does not allow this important functionality.

Hi,

In addition; with a SPFx extension you might be able to add some CSS on the page to hide the 'Submit for approval' button. I have done this before on a different specific piece on SharePoint

I have found that under the "Integrate > Power Automate > Configure flows" menu, switching off the "Do you want approvals in this library?" removes the "Submit for approval" button from the top ribbon.

Hope this help.

Hello- have you found a work around for this yet? I would like to keep the user record requesting access as they will be able to:

  1. Track their requests that are pending approval
  2. Receive email updates as approval flow continues.

Thanks!
