Trigger a SharePoint 2013Workflow using MS Flow

Hi,

Is it possible to trigger a SharePoint 2013 workflow using MS Flow? If yes, how?

My problem actually is I want to recreate approval workflow using Flow because it has in-email approval. Now, Flow does not support content type so I have to create a 2010 SharePoint workflow to manage the content type - since 2013 SP workflow cannot - and this 2010 workflow creates a new item in a separate list. The creation of items in the separate list should trigger 2013 workflow - I made it as 2013 because I need a loop and I need something that would handle Flow timeouts - but unfortunately, it does not trigger.

I'm using SharePoint online by the way.

Thank you,

Ching

There is no action included with Power Automate that allows you to call a 2010 or 2013 workflow.  I suspect that it can be done using the SharePoint HTTP action.  However, this is not a long term solution.  Microsoft has already said that you can't use Designer to edit classic pages in SharePoint online.  You'll be able to use Designer workflows with on-premises SharePoint until 2026 but no such promise has been made for SharePoint online.  Any day now, Microsoft might say that they no longer support Designer workflows in SharePoint online/M365.

Can you provide some more details of your requirement?  It is likely that it can be met using Power Automate alone.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for taking time to reply.

I have a 50+ Sharepoint Online lists that are attached in a content type.  I want to create an approval workflow using MSFlow.

What I did was I created a separate list - let's name it spList. I also attached a 2010 SPD workflow in the content type. When an item is submitted for approval in one of the 50+ SharePoint lists, the 2010 SPD workflow would create an item in spList. spList has a 2013 SPD workflow attached to it - this is to handle the timeout of MS Flow (30 days limit of Flow). spList also has MSFlow in it. Now my problem is, 2013 SPD cannot be triggered when an item is created by a workflow. This is why I am trying to trigger SPD2013 workflow using MS Flow.

I hope I made sense. Thank you.

Regards,

Erica
