Would it be possible to build a custom news digest (like the SharePoint one) using Power Automate?

Our company uses SharePoint Online for internal news and generally it works great. Our Communications team began using the inbuilt 'news digest' feature provided in SharePoint, which they manually have to setup and trigger each week.


The issue we face is that our Communications team want this news digest email to be customised with our own branding (banner, logo, font, etc). In addition, they want to automate this if they can, so that after every 4 articles added to SharePoint it will automatically send the news digest.


Unfortunately the SharePoint news digest feature is extremely limited, other than selecting the articles you want it to display there is nothing else you can do with it. I'll be honest I don't have a huge amount of experience with Power Automate, but I was curious as to whether this is something that could be achieved if built from scratch?


There are a couple of aspects to this workflow I'm not sure are possible:

  1. A way of detecting when 4 new news articles (not normal SharePoint pages) are added, perhaps some kind of variable which resets itself at the end?
  2. A way of surfacing the thumbnail, title and link of each news article within the email it sends out
