is there any documentation on advanced functions? you go into advanced mode and it says AtEquals() but where is the full list of functions written and how to use them?

In the advanced mode, you can use the same expression syntax that Logic Apps uses. Expression reference is here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/mt643789.aspx
