PVA or Microsoft Bot Framework?

We've been building chat bots using Microsoft's Bot Framework and hosting it on Azure. We've been doing this for a while now. Then we saw Power Virtual Agents and got confused. I played around with PVA and I really liked it. It can do everything Bot Framework, QnA Maker, and LUIS can do. So my questions are:

  1. How do we decide which one to use for our next chatbot?
  2. Did Microsoft really release 2 ways to create chatbots? These 2 seem like competitors of each other.

Hi @YousefShFlex ,

1. Yes, we have a lot of chatbot ways, Microsoft are improving our decision with may opportunities.

Basically you need to understand which is your scenario today, which license do you have, which is your knowledge about the technologies, and many questions because you can do a lot using PVA, but do you have license?

If do you doesn’t have, I recommend you to use inside the Teams you can do a lot using the Office 365 license.

2. Yes, you can create chatbot using:

- PVA with Power Automate integrated with Cognitive Services, LUIS, QnA and much more.

- PVA with Bot Framework Skills

- PVA with Bot Framework Composer Skills (planned, its not available yet)

Hello @YousefShFlex

Bot framework is more of a Developer way of building a bot.

PVA is more for the Low Code No Code model. PVA can still connect to Bot framework for more advanced scenarios.

Also with PVA, you have access to Power Automates connectors which is over 400 now!

Lastly PVA built in Teams is completely free with Teams license.

So to answer your question it depends on your scenario.

Here is the docs on PVA and PVA in teams:

hi@YousefShFlex  to ask your questions:

  1. How do we decide which one to use for our next chatbot?

Both are good ways to make a bot, so maeby what you need to know is how many money and time you can expend on.

So if you need to built a bot quickly without invest in developers Use: PVA

If your code es more compex than you can imagine with lots of web services an customizations: Use MS framework to developers

  1. Did Microsoft really release 2 ways to create chatbots? These 2 seem like competitors of each other.

No at all allways depends on the users necesity.

I hope I can help you with my answers
