Create Work Item Action for Visual Studio Team produces a URL that is invalid

I run a create work item action and right after it is an email action that includes the item URL dynamic content item from that VST action. When you click the item url you get this a page with all the content from that item in plaintext. The url produced is THIS:

https://<instanceURL>/_apis/wit/workItems/37

The workaround I came up with is this:

  1. Go into the location you will be dropping your VST Items and get the full url for editing a single item.
  2. Copy just the part before the item ID
  3. Create a variable called "VSTURLRoot" and put the value from 2 in that variable
  4. In the email action after the VST item create action insert the variable and then insert the ID property from the VST item you just created

😕
