Writing to Excel in OneDrive suddenly Fails because of Format Incompatibility

I have built several applications with PowerApps and they worked perfectly up until 2 days ago when I started receiving error messages saying that "Invalid value '0' for field 'Field Name', expected a string".

My issue is that this happens all of a sudden, even if the database was left untouched.

When I created the apps, I added a single row in each table which was then imported into PowerApps and the auto detection functionality of PowerApps chose the best format for the data cards.

This happens and I am not sure how to fix it other than rebuilding the apps completely each time this happens (and this is not at all a feasible solution).

I thought that having empty (or blank) rows in a specific column might confuse PowerApps?

In Excel the columns in the table containing numbers (they are just formatted as General from the beginning) are giving the issues, although a couple of days ago the apps worked perfectly?

The weird thing is that within the edit form in PowerApps one cannot enter text, but only numbers.

Please advise!?

Re: Writing to Excel in OneDrive suddenly Fails because of Format Incompatibility

Hi Merchant,

About the field that cannot enter text but only numbers, please check the Excel table. If you have formatted cells on the Excel table as Number but not General, then on the form the filed will be asked to enter only numbers.

About the error message you mentioned "Invalid value '0' for field 'Field Name', expected a string", I am not able to reproduce this issue.

Have you changed the format of the Excel file after you created the app? Could you please try to delete and recreate the connection to see if it will work?

Please feel free post back with more details about your data source and the issue, I will try to reproduce it from my side.

PS: Please post PowerApps related issues on the PowerApps forum, at there you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.
