Adjust AutoNumber field by condition

Hey Power Apps nerds,

Is it possible to adjust an autoumber column in Dataverse based on a condition?

For example, I have a 'Reports' table that has a Location column. Based on the location they choose, I'd like to adjust the prefix and the starting point of the auto number. For example if a new location is added, the prefix would change and the auto number would start back at the initial starting number. And it would pick up where the last locations auto number left off depending on the location selected. I hope this makes sense.

Hi @TorreyFalconer,

My last customer had a very similar requirement.   We actually kept the auto-number field standard and created other field that we would populate in a real-time workflow on the creation of the record (and actually on modification of the driving field in the condition) that would set the prefix appropriately and then concatenate the auto-number field.

This worked really well for the customer, hopefully makes sense to you.

Thanks,

Drew

Not out of the box, but you can configure/customise it.

The autonumber field is just a text field. The sequence number is actually generated elsewhere and formatted and then placed in the text field - the actual auto numbering is not based on the field on the record.  Once the value is in the field you can adjust it however you like either via Workflow or Plugin (trigger on create, on update etc)
