Can you save files in Dataverse?

Hi there,

I couldn't find an answer to my question online, therefore I'm asking it here:
Is it possible to upload files in Dataverse?

Some background info: I have created an app where our users can create contracts etc. besides creating the contract, my users would also like to add attachments to the contract (which they created in Power Apps). Think of PDF's, Excel files, images etc.

Now I could create a SharePoint or a Dropbox solution, but the company is NOT allowed to work in the cloud although they did make an exception for Power Apps. So I was thinking of uploading files in Dataverse since it comes with the Power Apps license, but I only find info regarding SharePoint etc..... 😞

Hi @Gjakova,

To add to @NHelgren's response, you should be aware of limitations of the File column, such as size limitations of 128 MB. Your file capacity is also based on the # of licenses you have. Additional storage capacity can be quite expensive compared to other file storage solutions such as SharePoint Online or Azure Blob Storage, or on-prem storage (depending on what kind of storage your org has).

With the above in mind, if you plan to store a large volume of files, you may still want to consider SharePoint for document management. The out of box Dataverse /Dynamics 365 integration with can connect with an on-premises SharePoint farm.

You can also use a Canvas App/page to connect to a SharePoint data source, using an on-premise data gateway in order to connect with your organization's internal SharePoint farm.

Dataverse includes a File data type which allows you to store files on any record. You can add the data type to a new column on any table you have the rights to modify.

Do you have any examples or some documentation that explains this? It is not clear for me yet as I haven't seen it yet in real life. Thanks in advance!

Sounds promising! Haven't tested it yet, but will try ASAP and update this topic if it worked or not 🙂
