Combo Box Selected and SelectedItems No Data (null) in Dataverse for Teams

Hi All,

Last Friday (4th Jun 2021) I noticed that a series of cascading combo box controls that previously worked on a client's application had stopped working. By "stopped working" I mean that when you select a value in the first control the second control would no longer filter its data based on the value selected in the first control.

After a bit of investigation I have narrowed the issue down to the Selected, and SelectedItems properties of the Combo Box control.

NB: I have tried to resolve the issue using both the select one and select many option of the Combo Box control. Neither setting results in the correct data being present in the Selected or SelectedItems properties of the control.

Here is a simplified example of the issue:

1. Create a new Dataverse for Teams canvas app.

2. Create a new blank page.

3. [Optional] Delete the default page.

4. Add a Combo Box control to the new page. (Default name is ComboBox1)

5. Switch to the Advanced tab of ComboBox1 and set the Items to:

Table(
    {
        name: "one"
    },
    {
        name: "two"
    },
    {
        name: "three"
    }
)

6. Change ComboBox1 OnChange property to save the Selected and SelectedItems properties to local variable that can be used to inspect the data:

UpdateContext({
    selectedData: JSON(ComboBox1.Selected, JSONFormat.IgnoreBinaryData),
    selectedItemsData: JSON(ComboBox1.SelectedItems, JSONFormat.IgnoreBinaryData)
});

7. Add a Label control to the new page and set its Text property to:

"Selected Data: " & selectedData

8. Add a second Label control to the new page and set its Text property to:

"Selected Items Data: " & selectedItemsData

9. Preview the application

When you select a value in ComboBox1, the result of Selected is null, and the result of SelectedItems is [null].

What am I doing wrong here?

Are others seeing the same behaviour?

How do I get the value selected in a Combo Box?

NB: You will get an error in the OnChange event of ComboBox1 after previewing the application because the JSON function is not able to serialize the SelectedItems property. If you change ComboBox1 to AllowMultiSelecttrue, you should get the same results.

NB: I have use JSON to display the data but I am unable to get any data using ComboBoz1.Selected.name. However, the intellisense is aware that the .name property should exist on the object referenced by Selected.

Hi @v-xiaochen-msft,

Thank you for your solution. It will certainly help me get the application back up and running.

I'm hoping that I don't have to replace all the combo box controls in the multiple edit forms that I am using.

Regards,

Mark
