Datavers field concationation

Is there anyone who could help me with I have a dataverse table and I want the record's title to be a concatenation of field A and field B with a dash and space but if field A is null I like the title to show Field B value only. I couldn't do this with business rule. Thank you

Hello,

Here is what you can do with no coding:

1. Create a real-time workflow that will handle the creation of a record or update of one of the A and B fields. Don't forget to set "Scope" to "Organization".

2. Inside the workflow check if Field A contains data and if yes - update Title with "A - B" values.

3. If field A is blank - Update the Title with the value from field B.

Don't forget to set the Title field as optional because it won't be possible to save the record from UI.

@Echo4674 You  will need to implement the concatenation using either a workflow, Cloud Flow, script or plugin.

hello @a33ik thank you for responding i wasn't clear on my question but by default dataverse records take the name field value as a title for the record and Field A is a name field which the title will show with field A value. is it still can be done with the flow?

I'm not sure. Can you illustrate in screenshots what's the current state and what you want to get as a result?

This can be easily done with JavaScript web resource. You have to add an On Save event (that occurs before the save transaction on the server) and read the values of both fields. If field A is not null or empty and it is the same for fields B, you can concatenate both. If fields A is empty, you set its value with the value of field B

@FPelliccia  Thank you for your reply. I was trying to do it with JS and it did put the concat on the value but the problem I am having is it also shows the concatination on the name field when I save it as well and I don't want that and also if tes_name is null it writes null. this is the code I used

function setCustomNameField(executionContext) {
  var formContext = executionContext.getFormContext();
  var tesName = formContext.getAttribute("tes_name").getValue();
  var tesOwner = formContext.getAttribute("tes_owner").getValue();

  // Get the name field
  var nameField = formContext.getAttribute("tes_name");

  if (!tes_Name) {

    nameField.setValue(testOwner);
  } else {
    nameField.setValue( tes_owner + " - " + test_name);
  }
}

What do you mean when you say you don't want to see the concatenation on the text name? The title of the record comes from the primary field (usually the name), you can't modify the title without read it on the primary field.
The only other way for do that is to have a different primary field (for example, tes_title), so you can modify it.
Or you can create a new field like tes_recordName and rename the label in Name, while tes_name label becomes Title (or similar. In fact, the important thing is that you valorize the primary field for showing the name).

About the JavaScript, is it writes something like "FPelliccia - null" it could be because it is not working the "if" condition, so every time it go inside the else and put the two strings together.
Try to change the condition from !tes_Name to tes_Name != null

Ps. I imagine that the else is like this:
nameField.setValue( tesOwner  + " - " + tesName ), instead
nameField.setValue( tes_owner + " - " + test_name).
