Escalation Costs in CDS

Hello team

We are working on a data migration proposal for a customer. One of the competitor has proposed Outsystems as a solution and given some disadvantages of Power Platform as below:

1. Escalating costs for Data storage Power Apps sits on Microsoft’s Common Data Storage (CDS) environment that was built to consolidate all of Microsoft Dynamics databases and schema

2. Additional database /files and logs all are charged at premium prices. Any serious development requires purchase of one of two Power Apps plans -the free edition is Canvas only and doesn’t allow connection to the CDS or premium connectors. (like SQL Server)SQL Server (If used) must be purchased separately.

Is this statements true ? Do we have any counter for the same?

Quick answers below. Also, you should reach out to your local Microsoft pre-sales/sales solution specialist to assist.

1. What's the issue? Dataverse (formally CDS so you can point out to the competitor that they're outdated) runs on Azure SQL (and some parts on Cosmos for logs and Blob for files). Being a standard SaaS offering there's additional cost for storage, but there's default storage that come out-of-the-box and additional per user licenses. More info on the exact cost refer to the licensing guide and to your MS rep for better enterprise discounts if applicable: https://docs.microsoft.com/power-platform/admin/pricing-billing-skus 
   From memory default is 10G for records, 20GB for files and a couple of GB for logs.
   Outsystems must have storage cost as well.
2. This is false. Any Power Apps per user / per plan have full premium access (or any Dynamics 365 license). Again, refer to the licensing guide above. No need of additional SQL server license (assume using the cloud version). You can use canvas app for free with any E3/E5 O365 license, but need a Power Apps per user / per plan (or Dynamics 365 license) for Dataverse.
