Having issue creating custom command button to update choice column

Hi,

I'm adding a custom command button to my model-driven app, the plan is by clicking this button user can update the 'Life Cycle' column value to "Submit" and trigger the automate flow. The 'Life Cycle' column is a choice type. I'm using Fx Patch to update the field. But it cannot be recognized by formula. I've published the whole solution, but it just doesn't work. Thanks for your help!

Finally fix it by opening the Component Library in the solution and refreshing the data base files in Canvas App page.

Hi @EmilyCai77

Apologies for asking counter questions rather than answering yours, what's the rationale of having a button? Why can't the user update the Life Cycle column? The flow could then trigger on when the Life Cycle value changes to Submit.

Kind regards

Gulshan

Hi @gulshankhurana ,

Thanks for checking into my issue 🙂

Yes, you're right, I also can ask user to update the LC by themselves. But I think to use button can improve user experience. As I check in many posts it can be easily achieved. I just don't know if any action I missed when adding new column so it cannot be recognized in the formula.

HI,

If this is choice field you need to update it like below, here I am updating Relationship Type field from account to customer

Hi @EmilyCai77
Here's what I've found and I hope this information helps:

"To patch a choice column, which is a type of column that lets you select from a predefined set of options, you need to use the Choices function to refer to the available choices for that column. For example, if you have a choice column named Status in a data source named Tasks, you can use the following expression to patch a record with the status of Completed:

Patch(Tasks, Defaults(Tasks), {Title: “Finish report”, Status: Choices(Tasks.Status).Completed})

The Choices function returns a table of records, each with a Value and a Color property. You can use the Value property to specify the choice you want to patch. Alternatively, you can use the dot notation to access the choice directly, as shown in the example above."

Based on this info, it appears that you won't need to use ' ' for Life Cycle followed by the use of Choices function to arrive at the value you want (Submit).

Please accept it as a solution if it helps resolve your query and/or give it a Thumbs Up for support.

Kind regards

Gulshan

Hi @gulshankhurana

I updated the formula bar as below, but it still doesn't work. Is anything wrong?

Hi @Mahender ,

Thanks for your comment 🙂

The problem is I cannot find my field in the red frame. If I type in then it is not recognized.
