Importing problem

Hello everyone,

im having a problem importing a data set into a dataverse table. I’ve tried the import via csv, xlsx, and sharepoint online list. In all instances i see all the columns/schema of the tables but none of the data gets imported. No errors appear to happen during the import as well. Also, I’ve tried importing the data via the “Get data” option and through a dataflow. Is there a switch or something the admin hasn’t flipped that would cause this? Any help would be much appreciated.

HI @Mcliston_78 ,

Just something to check but in your Excel / CSV file, do you have columns A-C filled in with values from a prior environment?  Example, did you export from one environment and you are importing to another?  If so, you need to remove these values in columns A-C (keep the columns though) and then import.  Columns I am talking about say "(Do Not Modify)" in their names.

There is also security on the Core Records that would stop you from importing if your user did not have a role with this permission.  See this article:  https://powerobjects.com/tips-and-tricks/data-import-privileges/

Hi @Mcliston_78 ,

If you have tried import csv/xml using OOB import wizard. You can find whether import is successful or failed. To get that log, navigate to advanced settings, settings sitemap will appear in legacy app. Settings->Data Management->Import where you can find log of your import. Open the record and find if any error occurs during import.

If you have used excel format for import, try as @dpoggemann  mentioned.

Login to Dataverse --> Click Gear Icon at the Top --> Select Advance Settings --> Click Data Management --> Select import --> Change View Accordingly--> You can see the status of the import.

Hi @Mcliston_78, are you still having this issue and have you looked at what @dpoggemann said? You can see the status of the Dataflow and error message in the Maker portal. Maybe that will give you a hint. Marker --> Dataverse (formally Data) --> Dataflows --> select your Dataflow --> click the little Warning icon next to the Last Refresh column
 

You can also try to import with the Power Apps Office Add-in which works quite well. More info:

I am still having this issue. Based on @Prakash4691 advice, I checked the imports log in the dynamics 365 admin page and my import shows the import name, and has a 0's under successes, Partial failures, errors, and total processed. Not sure how to interpret this but I'm thinking it's a permissions issue? Sorry, I'd add a screenshot but I work for a government agency.

What's the error with the Dataflow, it might give you an additional hint? Also, can you try as a System Admin to see if it's not a privilege issue?

Hi @Mcliston_78 ,

You did verify columns A-C were cleared right?  Just want to make sure it isn't this issue because behavior of the import will be this exact situation if they have IDs exported from another environment and you are importing into a new environment...

Another thing to try.  If you have a model application, export data to Excel from one of the view screens, modify the data, and import back in from the same view screen with Import Data.  Does this work?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I worked with a MS rep and I ran through the steps I did previously (minus some of the column transformations in Power Query) and import worked. Haven't narrowed down what exactly I was doing wrong but I suspect that it was a transformation in Power query.
