Synapse Link - do I need Reader PIM on?

Hi, 

With Synapse Link, I have provisioned Azure Synapse Workspace on a subscription in Azure. Access to this sub is by PIM role (Reader or Contributor). To set up Synapse Link, I think I need to activate Contributor etc - but - in practice, does this PIM role need to always be active for all Dataverse table owners in that PP environment?
