Updating a field based on Current Date

Hi,

I could do with a pointer in the right direction. I am trying to do what I thought was a simple things. I wanted to put a traffic light system on tasks on to the records of a model driven app (I know I can't have the colours, but I would still like the wording)

Green <Start date> Orange  <End date> Red

So I need to compare current date to start and end date.

My first thought was business rule but that came across two problems, one you can't compare against a current date. and it only seems to trigger on opening or closing the record.

My next thought was a workflow process (not power apps), it works, but only seems to trigger when the record is updated. I need to to trigger every day.

My final thought is Power Automate, but I would need two process, one to trigger on record update and another to trigger each day.

Am I missing a trick? this seems more complex than I though it would be.

Troy

Hi @troyhoskison,

Yes you can have colors/icons in a list for your traffic lights, it requires a bit of JavaScript though. Have a look at this link: https://docs.microsoft.com/powerapps/maker/data-platform/display-custom-icons-instead

I would say one of the simplest approach to compare dates with calculate columns/fields Use one of the DIFF functions (e.g. DIFFINDAYS) functions: https://docs.microsoft.com/powerapps/maker/data-platform/define-calculated-fields#capabilities

Hope this helps!

The icon things looks interesting. I will give both things a try.
