Request Approval Flow in a Modern SharePoint Online List

Connectors: SharePoint, Approvals, O365 Outlook​

 

  1. Create a SharePoint Online List - Add 4 columns: StartDate, EndDate, Approved, Comments​
  2. Create a Flow: “Start an approval when a new item is created”. Modify it to update SharePoint list.​
  3. Add Vacation request in a SharePoint List​
  4. Approve or reject Vacation Request Flow in email or Flow approval panel.​
  5. See Flow take the final actions and update the SharePoint list.

 

1. Create a SharePoint List - Add 4 columns: StartDate, EndDate, Approved, Comments​

2. Create a Flow on the action bar and click show more.

 Add “Start an approval when a new item is created”.

Name the flow "Vacation request", add the site address, list name and add the dynamic content in the "Start an approval" connector fields.  Be sure to manually add the email address of the person assigned to approve the request.  Note: You can also automate this process by creating a SharePoint "Assigned To" field in the list and have the requestor select a person or multiple people when they create the request.  And add the "Assigned to" field through dynamic content.

Add the condition of Response is equal to Approve. If yes, email the creator, request is approved and update the SharePoint item. If no, email the creator, request is rejected and update the SharePoint item.  And click Save.

 3. Add a "New" item vacation request to the SharePoint list.  This kicks off the Flow.

 4. Approve or reject vacation request through email or Flow approval panel. Add comments if needed.

5. See Flow take the final actions and update the SharePoint list. Vacation Request List gets updated with the approval or rejection and any comments that may have been entered.
