COE Starter Kit: Apps not getting deleted

I am using the COE Starter Kit. In the COE - Core Components I have the environment variable 'Also delete from CoE' set to yes. When I delete an environment is does get deleted from CDS, but the apps that were in that environment do not get deleted. Those apps still show up, just without an environment. Also if I delete a canvas app just by itself it does not get deleted from CDS.

Have I set up something wrong? Or is this expected behaviour?

Thanks

Re: COE Starter Kit: Apps not getting deleted

Hi @DerekHurley ,

Could you please share a bit more about your scenario?

Do you delete a Environment Variable from the CDS Environment or delete the whole CDS Environment?

Firstly, the Environment variable as configurable input parameters allow management of data separately compared to hard-coding values within your customization or using additional tools. The Environment variables would be stored in Environment Variable Definition Entity and Environment Variable Value Entity, which is separated with the canvas app.

Please check the following article or blog for more details about the Environment variable:

https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/environment-variables-available-in-preview/

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/common-data-service/environmentvariables

In other words, if you delete a Environment variable from the CDS Environment, it would not affect the canvas app stored in this Environment. Please note that the PowerApps Environment and the CDS are not same thing.

A PowerApps environment is a space to store, manage, and share your organization's business data, apps, and flows. It also serves as a container to separate apps that might have different roles, security requirements, or target audiences. The Common Data Service is acted as a underlying data source within the Power Apps Environment. They are individual concepts.

Please check the following article for more details:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/environments-overview

The following screenshot would demonstrate the relationship between the Power Apps Environment and CDS:
