OnPremise Data getaway : Asking to start a free trial

Hello there !

I have a huge and quite urgent issue there...

I am using a user with Office 365 E3 Plan, with PowerApps for Office365 activated.

I already created apps without any issue, even apps with on premise data getaway.

But today, powerApps decided that I did not have the right licensing !

I keep getting "Start a free trial plan today" messages, when I try to launch an old app which uses on premise data getaway, or when I try to edit a SQL on premise getaway (screenshot in attachments)

I saw on the support (https://powerapps.microsoft.com/fr-fr/support/) the following statement :

  • 2019-01-19
Users with Office 365 Business, Office 365 Enterprise E1, Office 365 Enterprise E2 or Office 365 F1 licenses are being prompted to sign-up for free PowerApps premium trial when using apps containing custom connectors or on-premises gateway. This is in line with the corresponding licensing entitlements and customers are seeing this now due to roll out of improved license enforcement. This will help customers stay compliant with the licensing guidelines. Please refer the PowerApps pricing page for a complete list of licensing entitlements.

But Normally my user is not concerned by this, because, once again, I am using a Office365 E3 license.

Can someone please help me ? I am stuck and can not modify what i want.

Thanks a lot. Have a nice day.

Re: OnPremise Data getaway : Asking to start a free trial

Hi,

I had the same issue and had a hard time figuring out the cause for it. Apparently Microsoft decided to change the SQL On-Premise data gateway connector as a "Premium Connector" effective from Feb 1,2019.

And for the users to use an app with gateway, they need to have PowerApps Plan-1.

Plese go through the below discussion links for more information.

@jballa41 yes, that is quite awkward.. I don't even know how to fill a bug Ticket, do you ?

Maybe someone from Microsoft teams could help us ?
I'm putting them into the thread : @v-micsh-msft or @v-yamao-msft or @v-monli-msft , could you give us more details on that matter please ?

Thanks a lot !

Re: Custom connector's creation : Asking to start a free trial

I have been looking for a way. I have opened a ticket with general O365 support and was transferred to someone in India. They are not responsive and will only communicate via email ( probably a good thing as I have found in the past the support person’s English is not very good).

In short my PowerApp has a connector to our on-prem SQL server via a On-Prem Gateway. It is calling to a SQL View that was created so that the end users can not modify production data, only read it.

My concern is that something has changed with the lic structure so that any application that is leveraging the On-prem gateway now needs a premium lic.

Re: Custom connector's creation : Asking to start a free trial

@jballa41 I have the quite same issue as you, but instead of connecting to a view, i am connecting directly to the database so users will be able to add/edit records.

I've took a look on my user's licensing, and I've noticed that PowerApps is appearing twice :

 and

So, it is strange because I didn't have Microsoft 365 E3 License before...

I asked another user which office did not ask to start a Free Trial to show me his licences. The result ? he only have the Microsoft 365 E3 with PowerApps for Office 365 activated.

So maybe the fact that I have both Office 365 Enterprise E3 and Microsoft 365 E3 plans is generating conflicts with my applications ?

Maybe if you check your licences, we'll discover we have the same configuration ?

Can @v-monli-msft or someone from Microsoft help us on that please ?

Thanks a lot !

Re: Custom connector's creation : Asking to start a free trial

@Gaëllecan you send me in PM your information so I can check on our side why do you get those errors? My team is the one that handles licensing (among other things) so I will have visibility into this.

Re: OnPremise Data getaway : Asking to start a free trial

Hi @DileepGolla !

I had news from @pakefali who told me about all the upgrades. But effectively, I haven't add this as an answer.

Microsoft rolling back in licensing plans is quite frustratious, and makes customer very uncomfortable and loses their trust.

Anyway, I now know why my PowerApps using On Premise Data Gateway won't work.

Thanks to all of you for giving me knowledge !

Have a nice day
