I realize I can use the Excel template to import data, but this is not ideal in many situations, and it seems to take a long time. It would be more helpful to allow users with the appropriate permissions to add, update, and delete records in CDS through a web page. An alternative would be to take an approach similar to the SQL Server Master Data Services Excel add-in that can submit data to the source (CDS in this case). Without have to first upload it somewhere. Either way, there are numerous cases for needing this: fixing data that was imported from another source, testing, easily adding data to a field so you can then mark it required. It seems a bit ridiculous that you currently have to build a form or write some code just to delete a row that you can see in CDS when you look at the data for the entity. I understand that Power Query can now/soon be used to import data to the CDS. Perhaps that could be part of the solution.
Hi Meagan - thanks for your feedback. We are looking at web based data entry forms, but in the interim have you tried using the Excel add-in as opposed to the Import option? It's hopefully closer to the SQL MDS Add-in you've suggested in your post. You can access it by browsing to an entity and click "Open in Excel" this will allow you to view, create, update and delete data by using the add-in.
