Allow NOT IN searches in advanced find, marketing lists etc

Author Name: Peter Hörnell

A very common request from customers is to find records WITHOUT a certain related record. Today I need to make a custom report for that. I think it would be great to be able to create views etc based on NOT IN statements in an advanced find. That could easily be used for customers to set up even more dynamics marketing lists too.

Thank you for your feedback. This is a great suggestion! We will consider this in our roadmap.

It is not at all encouraging to see that the suggestion is over 2 years old and has not been implemented—or had its non-implementation justified—despite it being the suggestion here with the most votes (370 at this time). It appears that Microsoft ignores the feedback we leave here. The limitations of FetchXML have probably been our biggest disappointment so far with Dynamics CRM Online, especially in light of how custom SQL queries are not allowed in reports. Being able to select something via negative logic seems like such a basic feature to me that I cannot understand why MS have not fixed this long ago. (Note that the workarounds suggested here are not satisfactory.)

I agree, this does seem like a basic feature that just isn't there! A 2 year old suggestion with far more votes than anything else should be in there by now. There are other examples of "workarounds" - Contacts: No Orders in last 6 months, Contacts: No campaign activities in last 3 months etc, so it can be done. We just need it configurable! Anyone know if it's coming in Orion?

Seems like this feature made it to CRM 2013, happy times! 🙂

Thank you for your suggestion. We have delivered this functionality in the Dynamics CRM 2013 release. Mike Carter This posting is provided "as is" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

We tried it on our CRM Fall 13 Online as well as on our Testing CRM 2013 on premise Environments and could not find this feature. Could you indicate where to find it? Thank you DI(FH) Roman Gebesmair CRM Consultant

Hi GebRom, Please refer to A good functional guide for performing Left Joins (i.e. NOT IN queries). HTH

@Simon, I totally agree with you that this is not really to be considered "fixed", but it's a first step for us partners to be able to help the customers finding posts that doesn't have a relation to a certain 1:N entity. It's a start, but we really need a way to achieve this though the UI so customers can create these kinds of views/search queries themselves.

Except it's not really "fixed" for most people is it? They want to be able to do this with the Advanced Find UI - they don't want to have to use the SDK to create (or modify) the views.

I also don't consider this resolved; the request was for it to be exposed in advanced find and it is not.

this is not delivered yet. We need it in the ADVANCED FIND. Providing it only on the XML level for admins is better than nothing but doesn't solve the problem of users
