Allow Owning Business Unit To Be Displayed On a Form

Author Name: Scott Orr

We have the need to display the owning business unit on many of our 500+ plus custom entities.

As of CRM 4.0, we have had to create an additional field on the form, that is read-only and create behind the scenes plugins to handle create/updates of the custom entities.

It would be very helpful if OwningBusinessUnit could be placed on a form and behave like the created/modified fields in that nobody can change the values.

Thank you for your suggestion. We will not be able to take this for the next release(CRM5) but will consider this functionality for a future release. Best regards. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

This has been requested in every implementation I've worked on.

One of my customer is facing the same issue.

Unable to add the 'Owning Business Unit' field to the form.

It will be very helpful if the function being achieved in the future.

Our team is trying to use these steps as a workaround.

In the entity(table), add a new relationship (Many to one )customized by ourselves, related to 'Business Unit' table. And give a display name called "Owning Business Unit". In the form we could use this as the field which related to 'business unit' table.

If you have any solution/workaround, please share it with the community. I will very appreciate for your smart contribution:)

Not only on a form, but also on Views.

It would be amazing to be able to filter in a view by Owning Business Unit.

Use case: you need to filter all records owned by all members (users) that are part of the same business unit, including those record owned by Teams within the same business unit.

I was surprised that there is no easy way to do this by using filtering in a view; for example by Owner.

Being able to filter by 'Owning Business Unit' could solve this issue. The field is already available, just not exposed to forms and views.

The Ask

a. Microsoft development team could consider adding a default filter condition like: "Equals to all Owners (Users and/or Teams) belonging to the same Business Unit as the current User"

b. The the possibility to filter by 'Owning Business Unit'...
