CRM needs rich text / image / content editing capability Overall - in Notes, K/B Articles, etc

Author Name: DANIEL DUFFY

Our users often (intuitively, having become accustomed to this functionality in Office apps) try to copy and paste rich content with HTML/XML and images into Notes, Knowledge Base Articles, email templates, etc, and they are often frustrated/surprised at the inconsistent results. It'd be great if CRM content editing was simplified and standardized overall for end users, so that copy/paste would produce the results they expect.

Being able to embed images in K/Bs, without referencing external URLs, having hyper-linked URLs in Notes, and having richer content editing controls in general seems to be something that the product should have in it's 5th generation, or certainly by the next release.

I found these similar requests for this functionality, but nothing that seems to request this as part of an overall request - although there certainly seems to be a pattern here with this request being made:

I totally agree. This is a must have requirement at least in the area of email templates. In my CRM 2011 project, for email templates I needed HTML text editor functionality. So I went for a third party JavaScript web resource and a custom email template solution. It would be really nice to have this rich text editor as a type of field. Also it would be great if it had HTML IntelliSense in it.

What I mean below is an advanced HTML editor other than the basic one provided.

Yes, this is definitey needed, especially for emails and email templates. But accross the board availablility would be nice!

Thank you for your suggestion. We are considering this functionality for a future release of CRM. Cheers, Rich Dickinson Dynamics CRM This posting is provided "as is" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Agreed. We use a service called Litmus to help us track open-rates on our email campaigns. Litmus, like many other similar services, need their tracking script included in the email as a style tag. As a workaround, we grabbed the URL from the style tag and included it into an image tag (1pixel x 1pixel). We then can copy it into the CRM template after it is displayed in a webpage (1px X 1px is so small you can't even see it's there). There are many other reasons why being able to develop email templates using HTML code would be preferred over the included WYSIWYG editor.

With the release of CRM 2013 (Release Candidate for now), I had big hopes that this feature would FINALLY make it through... well, it is a BIG disappointment to see that it's not there! Microsoft, when are you going to put this feature in your product? To me it is the basics when creating emails, I can't imagine for one second that there is not one engineer that could implement it fast, we are talking about this for years now (since CRM 4.0 as I can remember).

Unbelievable that no update on this yet. Just attended WPC 2014 and throughout the entire conference they were talking about how integral CRM is to the entire MS offering, when will we get this much needed feature? OneNote integration also should be a priority!

That is because the product managers and developers for Dynamics are knuckleheads that live in a cocoon. They do not listen and they have their own pre-conceived ideas about what customers want. They also do not seem to be using any sort of focus groups because if they did use focus groups of REAL world users, this kind of input would naturally be occurring and Microsoft would be LISTENING. This is evident by the fact that they closed this request out as 'RESOLVED'. How the hell is it resolved and on what planet do these people live to believe that doing nothing = 'resolved'? You'll see below that on 4/18/2012 at 4:14 PM, Rich Dickinson of Microsoft had this to say: "Thank you for your suggestion. We are considering this functionality for a future release of CRM." Then he closed this request out as 'RESOLVED' - a request that is several YEARS old, has MANY comments and currently has 59 votes. Microsoft *SAYS* that if you want features added / issues addressed, to VOTE, so if the voting functionality still works (since this is closed as 'RESOLVED') then we need more people to keep voting that they want this functionality. Microsoft has such HUGE potential with this product (and so many other MS products), and if they would simply LISTEN to their customers, they could dominate Salesforce and every other crummy CRM offering. But the apathy in Redmond and Fargo appears to be rampant. IF it's not apathy, it's ego. So vote, be vocal and TELL them what you want and maybe if enough people make enough noise, they will eventually LISTEN.

Please add my request to the pile; users want to be able to copy/paste... https://connect.microsoft.com/dynamicssuggestions/feedback/details/806911/crm-ntext-editor-rich-text...
