Camera Image Resolution

I have recently developed an app which makes use of the camera control. Everything is working as intended, except one thing, the resolution of the photos is 640x480. Apparently this is limited by PowerApps. This constraint will push me towards other development frameworks like Cordova/Ionic, Xamarin, etc...  I hope we can see some changes in the near future.

Best regards,

Status: Escalated

Hey everyone, we hear the feedback, and agree that there are scenarios where using Add picture control is not feasible.  We are discussing our options now, and will report back on this thread.

@FilipK What's the status on this item?

This is taking way too long. Pull some devs in a meetingroom, order pizza and get to work! 😁

I add a comment, maybe when there will be 50 pages of commentary they will move things ...

I'm not sure how to get this issue bumped up from escalated to implemented but here is my vote and a comment to keep this issue alive.

I have been checking this feature from time to time for two years. My application is still waiting for it.

Am I to understand this is still limited to 480p?

Has anyone thus far found a workaround for this daft limitation?

Hi all.

I've spoken to some people at Microsoft and pushed for this to be added. Most likely will lead nowhere but in the meantime, they have added a warning on the limitation to the docs article for this control :

Camera control in Power Apps - Power Apps | Microsoft Docs

Hopefully will stop people like myself from building a whole app just for it not to work due to this.

I am trying to use LOBE with Power Apps and need higher resolution than 640 X 480

I am using camera control to pick up the streamed image in the camera control every minute to run LOBE against that image but at 640 X480 the results are hamstrung by the poor quality of the image

I don't see any similar capability in the Add Media control since the UseMobileCamera property in the Add Media button does not do anything, so add media always requires user input and cannot be set up to automagically capture images every X seconds/minutes

There are countless apps we could build with LOBE and Power Apps if you could improve the quality of images we can capture with the camera control.  The poor quality of images in the camera control is a big blocking issue in many Use Cases with Power Apps at present 😞
