Copy and paste between open apps

This may already be on the horizon but I would love to see the ability to copy and paste controls and layouts between apps.

For example:

If I build a screen with all of it's layout, buttons, fields, etc. I'd like to be able to easily copy it from 1 app into another.

This would allow for multiple people working on a project but not in the same live file at the same time.

Status: Completed

Excited that this feature is now complete! You can now copy and paste across apps using Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste. Smiley Very Happy

@martinav You can use CTRL + A to select all the controls on a screen, use CTRL+C to copy and CTRL+V to paste on to a blank screen - you can copy the whole screen that way.

@LasaBlog Currently only one person at a time can have an app open for authoring. Multiple people can edit the app, just currently not at the same time. PowerApps has version control to handle reverting changes etc. If co-authoring and Integration with TFS are important to you, I encourage you to post them as ideas to this Ideas board and vote for other ideas that you feel we should tackle.

Hmm, that worked.  Was this posted on a blog when complete?  I have been waiting for this feature for quite a while.  I had no idea it was implemented.

The blog link from above yelds error 404...

@martinav Weird - I recopied the link - try accessing the blog here: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/copy-and-paste-controls-across-canvas-apps-available/

I'm sorry that you missed the announcement. 😞 Yes there was a blog.

To announce our features we do a combination of things - If they start from an idea, we update this idea in the forum (It is marked as "completed"), we have a "what's new" page here that is updated occaisionally: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/release-notes , and post a blog for big features here: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/   I definitely reccommend subscribing to the blog - a lot of good stuff coming from there, and the best way to get a snapshot of new features.

I tried copying one control, two controls, a group of controls. Didn't work, using IE and Chrome

Even with <CNTRL-C> and <CNTRL-V>?  Its not hugely clear, but that is how it works between apps.

Right button copy and paste I do not believe are effective between apps.

Tried that, and no luck, unfortunately.

We want to implement in development and test, and then copy those changes into our production app.

Hmmm... Lets try something else..

Where are you selecting before you paste with <CNRL-V>?  It does matter where you pick before you paste.

Also try doing a single item.  Get that working, then do your multi-select.

This will work with individual items, multiple items selected with <SHIFT>, and Grouped items.  It will NOT work with an entire screen.  But, you can copy ALL items in a screen and copy that into a blank screen.

We can get this working!

Thank you.

I highlighted the control on the left bar in PowerApps. That doesn't seem to want to paste between applications. Highlighting the control apparently on the screen worked instead. Interesting.

Thank you, I think we have it.

@vsslasd,

I'm glad you have it working!  The whole process does seem a little odd.  Now you know the things to try.  It may have different conditions based on many things that are unclear.  Kind of typical with this system.  I get surprises of new discoveries every day!
