Create App from Excel file stored on SharePoint

I think there should be functionality to build App from the excel file stored in Sharepoint? I know its possible to make App directly from Sharepoint-List but to make same from excel file stored in Share Point will be more beneficial because excel is used more as compared to Sharepoint - List

Having and Sharepoint/Team stored Excel file as a data storage for PowerApps is indeed really needed. I do not understand why Microsoft either allows Teams lists or CDS (Common Data Sources), at least not from a user level. I can guess that they want us to pay the big bucks for CDS as soon as we have a list of more than 3000 'active' items (that is the SharePoint list limit), but forcing users by disabling a feature is bad politics and I know many at Microsoft know that these days, that is why there is now (smartly) support for integration of Linux etc.  Yes Excel is the powerhouse Microsoft created and Microsoft allows it compete with PowerBI, as it ultimately helps us get to PowerBI. Same here, excel needs to be able to be used as a data source in PowerApps, even if it competes with CDS in a very minor level.

This is really important.
Powerapps have developed a number of Powerapp examples that all run from Excel data, but they can only be stored in OneDrive.  This makes them completely unsuitable for business use as the whole app would fail if that person left the business.
We need these apps to be able to run from an excel sheet in SharePoint.

This request seems to be similar to this other:

It said in the status, this feaure is planned, however, after 2 years, is this still planned, but not implemented? Really? Is there any ETA for this feature??
Which is the point of having a secure environment on 365 if then, the data source needs to be stored outside it? and shared independently of the app permissions? non-sense!

Yes any idea when this will be available?

I think this is basic requirement of many businesses. We can develop app from one-drive but we need to share that file with other users to use the app.

It will be helpeful for everyone if developed.

Any updates on this idea? we need this...

Power Apps

Thank you for the continued feedback - we are still continuing to track this item, but due to other priorities have not yet confirmed a time for this to be worked on. Excel can still be used on One Drive for Business. We will continue to monitor this idea in the future.

@CWesener: Thanks for the response. Appreciate it. However I'm confused about the 'priorities' under which your teams are working. OneDrive is a personal storage solution wherein SharePoint is an enterprise solution.  Your focus on personal data sources/solutions is confusing as PowerApps is predominately an enterprise solution itself. Is it possible that value metrics are not as prevalent in your prioritization as it is in other agile development approaches?

@CWesener  microsoft and potential users are losing opportunities because of "under prioritizing" this setiment. It feels bad to see the comments given way back a year ago and up until now.
