Export Permission on entity

Author Name: Ute Hus

somtimes a user needs the permission to export data from only one entity. But you need to give him the permission "Export to Excel" and with this, it is possible to export the data from every entity. That is to much for some users.

Is there any way, to change the permission, so that we can give the users the permission to export only selected entities?

Thank you for your feedback. Currently this is not in our immediate roadmap, however, we are tracking it and if we indeed get more feedback and votes, we may consider it in future.

also having granular entity level permissions for import / update from Excel would be nice.

To add to this, it would also be great if reports honored the export setting. If a user does not have Export privileges, then they can not export reports either. Thank you

I'd like to expand this description to granular control of Export -AND- Import by entity. For a number of my projects, the customer wanted the ability to restrict Excel exports to specific entities - and more importantly, they'd like to restrict the ability to Import only certain entities. (e.g. They want to allow a user to import/update "leads" from excel or other import mechanism, however they want all "contacts" to be only created through the regular UI and they want to prevent users from inadvertently (or intentionally) bypassing the form-scripting on other records by exporting/importing the records.) - Currently these permissions are "all-or-nothing" across the organization - once the user has permission to Export, they can export any entity they have 'read' permissions - or if they have Import, they can import any entity where they have create/update privilege.

The new open in excel online introduces a serious loophole for users to bypass business rules enforced on a form. This is an excellent feature and is really useful where appropriate, but it's perfectly reasonable to want to allow users to have this "bulk edit" capability on some entities and not others depending on the business rules necessary. Otherwise you will need to start enforcing business rules that are typically handled client-side on the server-side through plugins which degrades the user experience (they do all their work and THEN are told it's not allowed).

Separate Export To Excel permission option for Reports and Button in List view or Advanced Find of entity. Similarly Export to Excel on each entity level also.
