N:N Relationship Lookup Dialog Filtering

Author Name: Roshan Mehta

When using an N:N relationship, (for example between Account (or any other entity) and a related Entity), an Associated View for the related Entity may be displayed and accessed from the Account Information form. The ribbon bar on this view displays an Add Existing button which when clicked invokes a Lookup dialog that allows the user to lookup and select one or more existing records from the related Entity to associate with the Account.

Problem 1 – Lookup View
(a) There is no functionality available to configure or programmatically set the View that is selected by default on an N:N relationship Lookup dialog to a specific View. The default View selected is the Lookup View of the related Entity.
(b) There is no functionality available to configure or programmatically prevent users from changing the View that is selected by default on an N:N relationship Lookup dialog.

Problem 2 – Lookup Filter
(c) There is no functionality available to configure or programmatically set a filter on an N:N relationship Lookup so that users may only search for and select specified related Entity records for associating with the Account record based on a predefined criteria such as might be defined using a Fetch XML query. E.g. Only allow related records where Option 1 on the related record is selected.

Feature Request
(a) Add functionality to configure or programmatically set the View that is selected by default on an N:N relationship Lookup to a specific View.
(b) Add functionality to configure or programmatically prevent users from changing which View is selected by default on an N:N relationship Lookup.
(c) Add functionality to configure or programmatically set a filter on an N:N relationship Lookup so that users may only search for and select specified related Entity records for associating with the Account record.
(d) Add functionality to configure or programmatically prevent users from changing (overriding) the Filter that is selected by default on an N:N relationship Lookup dialog.

Thank you for your feedback. Currently this is not in our immediate roadmap, however, we are tracking it and if we indeed get more feedback and votes, we may consider it in future. Thanks Anusha Shankar
