Please improve search function in CRM 2013 UI

Author Name: Tobias Lehmeier

Hello,
I really like the idea of the new UI. It's a new and modern experience. What I miss is the ability to do a search in a quick way. For example if I'm in a detail record and try to search for a record of another entity I have to navigate with three drop down clicks first of all to the list view of the entity before I can perform a search. This are 2 clicks more than within the CRM 2011. For CRM Power Users that will be a worse situation as it is today with the Multi Windows. You have on top of the form the create button for all entities. As I expected there should also be a search field that allows a quick find over all entities available from all forms. I think that would be a great improvement to the new UI experience.

Best regards

I think the idea of a global Search next to the global Create button makes sense in lots of ways. Some details of how I think this could be well implemented: - use a button to drop down a panel similar to a quick create form, without leaving the context of the current record (just like Quick Create) - that button could have a second drop-down option to fire up Advanced Find (there are other requests already to make Advanced Find more discoverable in the 2013 UI and available everywhere, not just in views) - in the Quick Search panel, make this more like the search feature of the tablet app. Allow user to search across the commonly-searched entities (as per system settings the app uses) and display results in lists by entity within the search panel OR choose any one entity (from the list or not, this must allow any entity to be searched) and display results using Quick Find view in the whole panel. - honour Quick Find fields and filters, just like the app does. - add a "create" button to the top of each list of results. Use Quick Create if available, or new record form if not. Pass in searched values, in the same way that lookup searches do if you click "New" (only some fields). - if search is cancelled / panel closed, previously viewed record / view / whatever should still be there. At the same time, make searches on views only display records from within the view criteria. Searching all records filtered only according to Quick Find filters is not the most intuitive or useful search for many users.
