PowerApss does not support folders in SharePoint lists when creating new items

Currently, when you create a new item using a SharePoint list customized form, PowerApps does not support list folders. Meaning, it is always created at the root level of the list regardless of the folder you are in when you create it.

To avoid the 5000 limit of items in lists, when often use folders. But if PowerApps cannot place newly created items in folders... well it's useless.

So, if you could please provide PowerApps with the support of folders, it'd be great.

Thanks.

Status: Started

Assuming that document libaries are the target for folders here, and not lists (since SharePoint Lists do not support folders), the work is started. I don't have an estimated release date yet, but will keep updating this item as the work progresses.

Thank you,

Audrie

This has actually been implemented in our Forms solution - https://plumsail.com/forms/

If you are looking for an alternative app, which would create an item right in the folder which your List View shows currently, in Modern UI, check it out!

@Audrie-MSFT  - Any update on this feature? Dev work has been started in Oct-2018 but there is no update afterward. Do we have ETA for this feature? We have couple of critical project need where we need to create a folder in SharePoint list and powerapps does not support adding an item inside the folder. Please update.

Thanks in advance.

Power Automate

I am sorry I did not see your message to me. Adding Filip @FilipK to comment on this as a feature request.

You can however, drill into folders using the formulas. I do understand that this is not ideal.

Filip: Can you ask who should update this request moving forward?

Thank you for your patience,

Audrie

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem.  Any idea when a sollution will be rolled out?

This issue creates extra costs for my apps.

Thx

We need to use folders in lists in order to avoid the 5000 items threshold.

But we're not allowed to customise the form with PowerApps and add logic to it because folders are not supported.

Please add this functionality. Folders are important too!

SharePoint Lists DO support folders. In Fact, Folders are the only way that you can possibly overcome the 5k limit in a SharePoint list and also customize permissions.  You do not want to use record level unique permissions as there are also limitations on security pruning. Folders in a SharePoint list overcome all of this.

Our company built an entire CRM system using SharePoint Lists, List Folders, and infoPath Forms. InfoPath Forms work easily with SharePoint List folders and creating a record in a SharePoint List Folder keeps the record in that folder.

Unfortunately,  PowerApps does not and NEVER will support adding records to a SharePoint List folder like InfoPath does.  Microsoft will potentially only support a Document Library folder and nothing else making PowerApps completely useless on Large (Over 5k records) SharePoint Lists.

If your company works with records over 5k Microsoft will force you to use either SQL or the Common Data Model to develop your app. Why do you think Microsoft has not fully decommissioned InfoPath?

They are pushing everyone out of SharePoint lists and into the Common Data model.  SharePoint is pretty much a Dead technology and I cant wait for Microsoft to fully get rid of SharePoint.  Using the Modern Office 365 platform, there is little to no need for SharePoint especially with Teams and PowerApps working together.

SharePoint          Replaced With

Web Pages -->   Sway

  Workflow -->    Power Automate

          Lists -->    Common Data Model

    Info-path -->   Power Apps

 Documents -->  One Drive

         Videos -->  Stream

The Ugly Truth is that Microsoft  does not know how to move forward.  They only add confusion to its corporate and consumer customers by adding in applications and technologies that are not fully quality controlled and seem to overlap in functionality adding even more confusion.

I really think that Satya Nadella pushed Microsoft in the right cloud direction, but he has no control or ability to unite Microsoft in such a way that they start producing quality cloud based applications that are truly unified and serve as proper tools to its corporate and consumer base.

Until the internal culture of Microsoft is changed, you will always continue having these silly little issues.  I mean , what other software development company in the world would you allow to do this? Microsoft operates on its own will and is stuck thinking inside the box.

Do you really believe that these suggestions, voting tools and forums actually make any difference?   People, when a software company ignores the forum, for 2 years, do you really think they give a crap about your ideas?  This voting forum is just a complete waste of time!

Until a complete overhaul is done inside the Microsoft culture of independent development Islands is changed, we the users will pay the price. And that price will be more than just dollars, it will be in wasted productivity and less efficient Apps that have the most silliest of constraints!
