Renew the timer on Web Apps

When viewing an app in a web browser, the app will timeout after a certain duration. Then a small dialog will pop up telling you to restart the app. Previously, the app would continue to remain open, but be disconnected from datasources and you wouldn't know it. So the implementation of the dialog box is good.

I suggest a way for web browser users to renew their session without restarting the app. Suppose you are near the end of the available time to use the app, but you need to complete something on it before it restarts. You would be booted off and lose your progress. It would be useful to renew the session so that you don't lose your progress.

Users and I are still being logged out of the app without warning. Can we know exactly what has been programmed for the timeout counter? If we know this, we can create a timer that lets users know that the time is up soon, and then invoke the exit ourselves.

6 months since the last communique from MS. Any word? I'm tired of losing my work because my PowerApps session times out while I'm making coffee. This comment box is equipped with better autosave/recovery functions than PowerApps. This is quite honestly ridiculous.

PowerApps Staff

There is currently a bug that expires the session after 1 hour.  A fix for this is coming out within the next two weeks, which extends the session timeout to 8 hours.  The work to extend the session further is on the backlog but no ETA yet.

Hello everyone, i am having problemms with session time as well. This 8 hours duration looks really good. Please inform us if there is an update on this.

Microsoft Employee

Hi everyone,

Is there any update on this session issue ?

PowerApps Staff

Does your session expire sooner than 8 hours?

Microsoft Employee

Yes on web platform  sooner than 8 hours but with desktop application i haven't faced with session issue yet. On desktop i have just this problem.

When user minimizes the desktop application timer stops counting (ithink due to in active window) but when they return to the app it works normally without session issue. If it is possieble we want to use our app on web browser with longer session time.

Just inform me if there are new updates with this session thing on web or any idea while using the app on desktop how i can prevent timer stop counting when they minimize the app.

PowerApps Staff

The issue with the timer stopping is controlled by the OS, which suspends PowerApps when it's minimized.

Regarding the session timeout, are you experiencing that on create.powerapps.com or web.powerapps.com, i.e. when you are editing the app or when your are using the app?
