2 questions about entity form auto change

Hi everyone,

Recently I'm architecting a customer portal through power apps portal.

I got 2 requirements as below and haven't yet found a good way to resolve them.

When I create a new record or update a current record, in the  entity form:

Q1. There are 3 columns related to phone number settings.

   Column1 data type is set as Option Set, with which people can directly select a number from a list.

   The data type of both Column2 and Column3 is Integer.

  Requirement:  Once I select a number in Column1, an auto-calculation will happen and the value should be input as below.

                        Column2 value=Column1 Value+20

                        Column3 value=Column1 Value+40

Q2. Still in the same entity form, there I have a column to set Product type, it's also Option Set.

 Requirement:

     I set different details form based on the product type.  Now all items are displayed.

     Thus I hope that the entire entity form can make a real-time change based on the product type selected.

 Some items are hided, while some are displayed.

Code writing is a little difficult for me.  So I prefer a no-code method.

Any ideas,  please kindly share with me.

Hi @Audreyma ,

All of your requirements can be done with some javascript. Unfortunately, there are no no-code solutions for your questions on the portal as of now. You can check this article from @OliverRodrigues on how to hide fields. You would need to add a function to act on a change of field and then use examples from Oliver's post. Similarly, you can perform auto-calculation.

I managed to resolve Question1.

And for question2, I suppose it will use the same function. 

However, the parameter used in Q2 is different for Q1.

Sorry, I'm new for Javascript.  Is it possible to apply the same function to different parameters and make different calculations accordingly?

Could you kindly give me some advice?  Thanks in advance!

Hi @Audreyma ,

I am not entirely sure what you mean by parameters. Can you elaborate a bit? You can create a separate function to perform a calculation and separate to hide fields. I would advise you to check out this website - https://javascript.info/ - this is a modern tutorial/handbook for learning javascript.

Depending on what you are doing, you may find using a Web Form (rather than Entity Form) would work where your user would select something, then go Next and on the next Step they fill in the details (i.e. you can multiple steps where each step has different sets of fields and based on the previous selection you show the respective Step)

Sorry for causing misunderstanding.

Based on the example you gave, I created function () { onFieldChange() .

Actually, I need to apply this function to different columns and make different calculation.

1. If Column A selected value=123, then hide ColumnB,C,D

2. If Column E selected value=100, then Column F value=100+20, Column G value=100+40

So I want to create 2 function () { onFieldChange() but not sure how to make it.

The Portal uses jQuery and as such to hide/show etc you can usually just google how to do it in jQuery and that works e.g.

rather than 
$("#<field name>").val();

you could use 
$("#<field name>").hide();

document.ready is a jQuery construct that basically means when the Page is ready (DOM is ready) then run the code that is inside it the .ready, for another on change, you just add another line such as what is there in the OOlashyn example.

Your fields/columns in dataverse/CDS all have a Schema name and this is usually reflected as the name of the inputs etc you see on the portal (sometimes there maybe slight variation such as schemaname_description etc).

You can just create 2 functions with names like onChangeColumnA and onChangeColumnE and register them on the onchange event of the needed fields (as described in my previous reply). It will look something like this:

       // hide show element + other logic field A
};

function onChangeColumnE(){
    var selectedValue = $("#<field E>").val();
    if(selectedValue == "<Your Needed Value>")
       // hide show element + other logic specific to field E
};

$(document).ready(function () {
    $("#<field A>").change(function () { onChangeColumnA(); });
    $("#<field E>").change(function () { onChangeColumnE(); });
});

I have managed to created the 2 functions.

But there is a little issue for function1 (hide/show section).

When I create a new record, it works perfectly.

However, once the record creation is finished, clicking the created record again to check, I found that hide function doesn't work...

The situation is as below.

When creating a new record:

Select option 1, only Section A can be seen.  This is correct behavior.

Once record is created, click it to check:

Although option 1 is selected, Section A B C D E can all be seen. This is  incorrect.

Then if I change to other option, hide function will work again....

It seems that the function only works when change is made.  If creation is completed or update is finished, function will be disabled, all sections will been seen when record is opened again.

Could you kindly give me some advice about this issue?  Thanks in advance!

Yes this is expected behavior. The functions that you are attaching to the fields are triggering only when change event is triggered. When you just open the page and didn't touch the fields this event will not be generated. To run them after you attach them you can trigger event yourself with jquery. This way it will work both on create and on edit page. It will look something like this:

    $("#<field E>").change(function () { onChangeColumnE(); });
    $("#<field E>").change()
});
