Data not saving on previous step in web forms

if you have multiple steps the record is only saved when going next.  If you have a situation where a user on step 2 fills a bunch of fields and then goes back (previous) to step 1, when they return to step 2 the data is not there.  I get that next commits a save or update to the row but surely preserving the data on a step or allowing a save in step would be better.  The row itself could also do with a submitted status as the record gets created after first step.  Anyone else having this issue and importantly any awesome solutions out there?

Hi @RMW

This issue is already discussed in the below post. Adding reference for your kind reference.

@OliverRodrigues  has suggested a way using webapi, plugins or using custom JS.

I have tried custom JS using session storage and local storage.  Please watch the given video and choose appropriately based on your need.

Hope it helps.

@RMW ,

I would suggest/recommend to try any of below two methods,

1. Use jquery/javascript, loop through all the controls and check if any value has been entered in the form using isdirty property based on that disable previous button.

2. Or use window.onbeforeunload to prompt user while moving away from the form, if any value entered need to be saved.

In both the case we prevent users moving away from current step and allows them to save before moving.

If it answers your question, kindly give kudo and accept it as solution.

Regards,

Prakash
