Portal website gone & will not reset/not editable after 2 delete & re-provisions

I've had an extremely similar issue to another post (https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Power-Apps-Portals/Power-Portal-All-pages-gone/m-p/717533#M4271b...) but the solution posted didn't work for me (to reset)and Im in need of help. I set up a portal and have been slowly working on it... Today I deleted a page (accidentally duplicated a page I previously made and deactivated - so I reactivated it and deleted that pag) but thought I must have accidentally deleted the whole website as the entire website inside the portal was gone. In my attempts to repair this I decided it would be easier to try to start from scratch so I deleted the current portal and decided to create a new one in the same environment however it is still completely lacking the website section entirely when I add a new website it does not provide any templates whatsoever so I'm at a standstill here. I cannot edit the portal, the edit option is greyed out in app selection page, and when I go into the portal management app, there is no website to edit (active or inactive), no snippets, no templates, no settings. I really need help as I am at a standstill after a month's worth of work that is now not only gone, but I can't get in to even recreate from scratch ( I actually tried creating the new portals twice today, one to create a starter portal in an existing environment in the other one I went in and reset the portal and tried to create new portal from blank... both in existing environment, both times same results). In a perfect world I'd like to reset the day and go back to this morning when I still had all of my original work but I understand there isn't a simple recycle bin that can be utilized. I will happily settle for a 'clean slate starter portal so I can start recreating some of my site, themes, web pages, web roles, access rules, etc. (at least I did take notes since I was learning)! As a final fyi, I did receive a notice both times that the (re) provisioning was complete and both times the link(from email notice and when you click on the portal from Powers Apps page) said something to the effect of something went wrong there's a problem, contact your admin (that's me!) Which was likely due to the fact that the basic website metadata didn't reprovision/reload either time.
Plz help!

Hi @lisarinehart :

I'm not sure whether my understanding is correct or not, please help me point it out if there is an error.

Are you facing one or more of the following problems:

  • Deleting a page causes the entire portal to be deleted.
  • The newly created portal is blank and cannot be edited.Like this:

2.JPG

   About the first problem:

I made many tests but did not encounted the same problem.Even if I delete all the pages, the portal still exists and allows editing. If this problem continues to occur, I suggest you create a support ticket.

   About the second problem:

Usually the cause of this problem is that the portal has not been configured, please return to the homepage (https://make.powerapps.com/) and wait. Until you receive the notification that the configuration is complete before reopening portal studio

In addition,If the problem still cannot be solved, I suggest you create a support ticket

The issue stemmed from me deleting a webpage in my portal. I assume I must have accidentally deleted the entire website instead, as I immediately started having issues & the portal started behaving as though the website was gone (this delete action was done in the portal management app, as I was working on setting access/web roles).

As this was not an action I could Undo, I attempted to delete the portal and start fresh (to no avail), and as a second attempt, reset the portal, both times renaming with new URL (in my understanding, these 2 things achieves the same goal, it's just a different way to do the same thing, something Microsoft is very good a providing 🙂 ).

Unfortunately, today I still cannot edit the portal app (option greyed out), and when I enter the Portal Management app to edit, there is no website, no data, active or inactive, no pages or settings. 😞

I was hoping maybe the provision notice was just early, but that's not the case as both times I waited until I received the notice (via email as shown below), and tried again this morning, as mentioned above there's no change.

I think I will have to create a ticket at this point...I was hoping there was maybe just a CDS entity that was missing that need to be 're-added'....but this is looking like there won't be a simple solution.

I'd even be willing to create a new environment to start fresh, but I'm afraid that won't fix the problem, but instead create more.

Either way, thank you for the suggestions - I'm always appreciative of help, no matter the outcome!

Hi @lisarinehart,

In the past, we would enter the "instance picker" and re-install the managed solutions to trigger the re-creation of all of the records. Unfortunately, this has been replaced with the make.powerapps.com URL and I can't seem to find a workaround there.

In one of the FAQ pages, it looks like it's possible that you'll just need to create a new environment, but I'm not sure how this might affect your billing (assuming it's not a trial): https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/faq#im-getting-an-error-that-only-one-porta...

I would definitely open the ticket and see if Microsoft can correctly reinstall your solutions, or potentially revert the instance to salvage some of your work.

Thanks @justinburch  I did create a ticket and Support did a great job getting me squared away, albeit without restoring my customized data. There was one extra step that I missed with the reset to trigger the provisioning to reinstall the complete CDS solution for the portal...as I said, I did lose all my previous customization but really at this point I'm just glad I can get in and start working again!!

I had to go into the admin center and delete the CDS Starter Portal Solution and THEN reset the the portal, then create a new portal from blank, which then provisioned properly, reinstalling the the CDS portal solution and all the basic templates and relationships and 'stuff' so I can get in and start customizing again (When it provisions, I presume it doesn't overwrite the CDS solution if it already exists in standard MS fashion to A-let you keep your previous work & B-it's less taxing on the system/process because why rewrite data that is sees as already there?) and since my CDS solution was all kinds of messed up because I deleted something I presumably shouldn't have it, simply re-provisioning a new portal didn't work.

Being that this is my first portal, I did have a lot of little 'testing' items that I tried & deleted or change a million times making the whole thing a little messy as I learn to implement what we need. Many times with projects like this I like to start fresh once I get a good grasp of what is needed & how to properly implement with a new system, SO losing my previous work isn't a catastrophic loss (I also take a TON of screenshots as a I work as a kind of backup/note taking process, so I can recreate rather than reinvent).

To your point, on the new environment, I was thinking the same thing & was saving that option as a last ditch, final option - use only if absolutely needed as it would definitely affect billing and I'm not sure what it would do to other solutions/apps I have previously created (I'm glad i didn't have to find out the hard way how this would affect my other solutions!! :-D). Can't tell you how nice it is to get confirmation/validation on my thought process - definitely helps me be more confident!

Thank you very much for your input! I'm very glad for this community to lean on as I work - it's been a super resource & hope I can eventually answer as many questions as I ask! 😄
