Hi do people prefer to use PowerApps portal list or an alternative such as  https://datatables.net/  when display table data in their portals.

Thanks in advance

Hi @gman

The answer is the Portal list because it is an inbuilt pack and easy to configure. But you are not limited to building with different JS libraries. There are a few pain points but if you are happy to build with some extra effort you can use anything you want.

NB: Keep in mind that if you use external libraries then this is not portal responsibility if external libraries have breaking changes, also when taking into production you may need client approval for this approach.

Hope it helps.

Hi @gman ,

i would definetly follow @ragavanrajan 's post. Just to add something: If you really need a supported version of list rendering, you could set up your own list rendering with this example: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/liquid/render-entity-list-current-page

You may have noticed, tht lists are rendered via an {% include entity_list %} statement but you will never find that template. But you could include your custom template and get full control of the rendering.

But as @ragavanrajan : when there are extensions to the data (for example multi option lists) you would have to do it by your own, so the built in list has definitely advantages 🙂

Have fun,

  Christian
