Set default home page after portal migration

Hi Community,

I have finished a portal and wanted to move it to another env. Following the instructions described here:

I was able to get all configuration and assets moved to another env  (there I can see all stuff in the portal management). My portal is shown there as its own website. How do I configure the portal in a way so that my migrated website is accessed instead of the one that comes out of the box?

I tried:

- setting 'Home' Webpage to my web migrated website

- adjust website bindings

- adjust site markers

- adjust page template

Nothing made the portal bring up my website upon using the portal url, but only the original.

Would be grateful about any hint.

Thanks a lot for your input. I tried all your suggestion, unfortunately it did not work out as I would have hoped. I ended up renaming the website in the source env. That way migration successfully overwrote portal management.

Hi @Anonymous,

You may need to restart the Portal, as the Home Page is tightly coupled with the web app running in the cloud. Follow the steps here, but use Restart Portal instead of Reset Portal: Reset a portal - Power Apps | Microsoft Docs

It would have been easier to just ensure the same type of portal was installed in the target environment as the source environment (Custom, Partner, Community Self-Service, etc.), in which case the migration would have just overridden the target records correctly.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention, I already restarted about a dozen times. Both Portals are custom portals.

hi @Anonymous ,

Can you confirm in your new environment you have created the portal first and then used the "configuration migration tool" to migrate it.  My recent experience was I created the portal first in the new environment> Then used the migration tool to migrate. Once you can see all your assets

1. In new environment > open portal studio > press "Sync configuration" and Browse website

2.  From my memory you need to hide child pages (if required) and apply web page access control rule in new environment (if required) other than that everything else will be migrated

3. If you do not see the home page or any changes > Press "ctrl + f5" together for the hard refresh

Hope it helps.

as per @ragavanrajan if done correctly the movement of the via the data migration tool and the correct schema is usually all you need to do (and then clear cache on the portal - login to portal as user with Administrator Web role then navigate to /_services/about  or do the Sync Raga suggested).

If you have multiple website binding records, you may need to associate the correct one to the portal via the Update Portal Bindings dropdown on the Details page in the Portal's admin (close to where you would have been doing portal Restart) in -> Apps -> <the name of your portal app> (select it) ->Settings->Administration
