Develop a way to access a SQL table using a text to return the corresponding number

This feels like a complex problem to me.

We have an app that we are looking to allow the user to either, type in a text or select from a dropdown but have that return the associated number to that text/dropdown into the app.

Example: I put in ID and it returns the account ID associated in the SQL table.

Is this possible?

Yes, just set up your SQL database as a data source in the canvas app and you can query it like any other data source.
