Im- & export collection data locally: Can this even be done?

My company fell in love with the PowerApps that we made in the last year. But now comes the largest challenge: Out salesreps work outdoor, and make use of quite a data-intensive, off-the-shelve third-party application (a product configurator). That application stores it's data in a SQL database that is installed on their own Surfaces. Not ideal, but they do visit locations now and them where the connection is too weak.

Now: That configurator is a legacy application without am API, but in out sector it's the best pick. It does a very good job and we're very happy with it, but some of our products do not fit in it. Out salesreps have an urgent need for a secondary app (read: A powerapp) that they can use to enrich the data from the configurator, that continuously communicates with it's database. For instance: When a new product is configured in the primary application, that project position needs to be instantly loaded to the powerapp, where the salesrep could attach some additional items to that position, and instantly sync that item back to the SQL database.

When we could rely on an internet connection this would be fairly easy, using some Flows. But we cannot rely on that. The default im- and export function would function (it is acceptable to hit a savebutton), if only I had the chance to store the ZIP files containing the XML on a fixed location without the need for users to pick a folder in the file explorer each-time for saving the export file, which not only makes the process annoying but unreliable too.

So I'm in the need for a little advice here. I have no experience in developing PCF's and I know that they are not meant for this, but I did find two or three topics online from people who tried to im- & exporting collections using a PCF. Is this even possible? What are good alternatives? Do http post requests to a localhost using a HTTP connector work offline? I am able to find the cachestorage, where the data collections turn out to be stored in (unencrypted!!) ready to use JSON files. I know I shouldn't touch it but it's so tempting, those JSON's are exactly what I need... Should I just do it?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!!

Hello @PiebePost1 ,

For offline apps, I believe our blogpost and documentation regarding developing Offline-capable Canvas app could be of great help-

Implementing Offline Capability In Your App

Develop offline-capable canvas apps

As of for HTTP connector to work offline, that isn't feasible at this point of time.

Hope I was able to address your ask.

Thanks for your reply RaahiSen. I am zware of that post but I don't see how it answers my question regarding im- & export capabilities. How do you?
